Determination of Carbon (C), Hydrogen (H) and Nitrogen (N) levels is part of the Ultimate Analysis for materials containing Carbon (usually organic), where these data are very useful, one of which is in determining NM/NME calculations, efficiency and potential emissions if the material is used as fuel.
The test used the CHN Analyzer from LECO CHN628 as a combustion elemental carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen instrument located at the Energy Resources and Chemical Industry Laboratory (LSEIK) – BRIN. The working principle is complete combustion using pure O2 in a furnace. The combustion gases will be filtered in stages and will go through several filters as well as a Carrier Gas in the form of Helium to guide the filtered combustion gases into a different detector (IR Tcell detector) for H2O and CO2 detection while the TCD cell is used to detect N2 .
The minimum weight of the sample sent is 2 grams (passes 60 mesh)
