A Color Reader is an instrument used to measure and objectively quantify the color of samples based on a specific color measurement system. Color measurement can be used to evaluate color characteristics and changes in various types of samples before and after processing or treatment.

Service Specifications- Equipment: Color Reader
- Function: Measurement and analysis of sample color
- Measurement parameters: Color values based on the L*, a*, b* (CIELAB) system and/or other color parameters available on the instrument
- Sample type: Solid samples, powders, films, sheets, and other materials with surfaces suitable for color measurement
- Sample: Ready-to-test samples prepared by the user
- Sample preparation: Not included in the service
- Output: Color parameter values and/or sample color measurement results
- Operation: Performed by the user in accordance with the equipment SOP and under laboratory staff supervision
- The user must provide information regarding the sample type, form, quantity, and characteristics before using the equipment.
- Samples must have a surface suitable for color measurement and must be properly positioned within the instrument's measurement area.
- For solid or sheet samples, the sample surface must be clean, dry, and free from dirt or foreign particles.
- Powder samples must be homogeneous and have a uniform surface condition to obtain representative results.
- The user is responsible for ensuring that the sample does not cause damage to or contamination of the instrument's sensor or measurement port.
- Measurements must be performed under the appropriate measurement conditions and procedures specified in the equipment SOP.
- To obtain more representative results, measurements may be performed at multiple points on the sample.
- Users must comply with the applicable equipment SOP and laboratory safety procedures.
- Measurement results may be affected by sample homogeneity, surface texture, particle size, moisture content, sample thickness, and surface condition.
- The user is responsible for ensuring that the sample is suitable for measurement using the Color Reader.
The measurement results may include L* (lightness), a* (red–green coordinate), and b* (yellow–blue coordinate) values, as well as other derived parameters available on the instrument. These values can be used to compare color differences between samples or evaluate changes in sample color resulting from a particular treatment or processing condition.
