Plankton (phytoplankton) are free-floating organisms that live, grow, and move with ocean currents. These free-floating organisms play a vital role as primary producers and serve as energy transfer links and factors that regulate biogeochemical cycles. Indonesia, with nearly 60% of its territory covered by oceans, boasts a diverse array of plankton species. However, one of the challenges in conventional plankton studies is the lack of a rapid and accurate method for identifying and classifying plankton species. Therefore, image data analysis methods on microscopic images are used to address this issue. Identification involves two main steps: detecting the location of plankton in the image and then identifying the plankton species.
