Electro-hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) is a hydraulic power steering system that utilizes a power source from an independent electric motor. EHPS is applied to most electric-based commercial and heavy vehicles. The special characteristic of EHPS is that it is a conventional hydraulic steering system which is driven by an electric motor with a power source from a battery pack or accumulator. EHPS research areas for electric vehicles include:
• Acquisition of EHPS torque and energy performance data
• EHPS controller design
• EHPS controller communication design
• Optimization of EHPS energy consumption
• Added active features to the EHPS system
For research internships related to this topic, participants will be given exposure to the EHPS system, an introduction to EHPS research and case studies that can be done as part of the research internship. The minimum output target for a research internship is an internship report. However, it is an added value if participants are able to write scientific papers. This research topic has the potential to be continued for final project research.
