Guidance on research activities regarding wireless power transfer (WPT) systems for energy charging applications in electric vehicles. The applicant joins the electric vehicle technology research group, BRIN Transportation Technology Research Center.
Currently, electric vehicles (EV) are increasingly being developed in the world. Environmental conditions and fuel dependence are crucial issues of concern. This trend usually increases due to regulations issued by local governments that limit the level of emissions from motor vehicles in their cities. The important point of an EV is the charging infrastructure to meet the energy needed by the EV to operate.
This research is related to sending a certain amount of power from the transmitter to the receiver wirelessly using the capacitive method. The development of wireless power transfer (WPT), provides a convenient way to transmit power without cables or connectors between the charging station and the vehicle. It is used to overcome the disadvantages and safety factors of conventional charging methods, such as damage to the plug electrode, high possibility of cracks in old cables, vandalism and risk of electric shock when it rains or snows.
Available research sub-topic options include:
• Power inverter with MHz working frequency for WPT system power supply.
• Design and prototyping coupling interface on WPT using capacitive method.
• Active rectifier and DC DC converter on the receiver side of the WPT system.
The scope of activities includes literature reviews, experimental/computational simulation activities (adjusted to the interests and background of the proposer), data processing, and writing scientific papers. The duration of the activity can be extended for student final project research.
