The Kongsberg uPAP 200 is a small and compact acoustic positioning system designed to operate from surface vessels to track ROVs, towfish, divers, and other underwater targets at distances of up to several thousand meters. The system operates in SSBL (Super Short Baseline) mode, where it measures the range and bearing to the underwater transponder and calculates the 3D position in local or geographic coordinates. The µPAP is designed as a portable system for easy installation on vessels or other surface units.

Key Features:

  1. On-Screen Assistance: Online guidance available on-screen for ease of use.
  2. APOS Operation Advantages: Utilizes APOS technology for optimal performance.
  3. Automatic Electronic Steering Beam: The system automatically directs the acoustic beam for accurate tracking.
  4. Full LBL Functionality (Optional): Supports LBL (Long Baseline) mode if required.
  5. Advanced Software: Utilizes the latest technology for future applications.
  6. High Reliability: Built on the proven HiPAP technology.
  7. More Accurate than HPR 410P / 418P Systems: Offers higher accuracy.
  8. Ability to Track Hundreds of Underwater Transponders and Responders: Capable of tracking multiple targets simultaneously.
  9. Position Data Output to Navigation Systems: Outputs position data in established formats.
  10. Processing Input from Heading Sensors, GNSS, and Sound Velocity Probe: Integrates data from various sensors for improved accuracy.
  11. Narrow Receiver Beam: Reduces noise from other directions.
  12. Cymbal Acoustic Protocol (Optional): Introduces several enhancements, including the use of Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) signals.
  13. High-Speed Acoustic Data Communication: Uses wide-band spread spectrum signals.
  14. Easy Vessel Installation: Designed for easy installation on the side of the vessel without the need for a gate valve.

µPAP Advantages:

  • Portability: A compact and easy-to-move system, suitable for quick installation on various vessels.
  • High Accuracy: Uses electronic beam steering technology and advanced acoustic protocols for precise tracking.
  • Flexibility: Can be used for various underwater applications, including ROV, towfish, and diver tracking.
  • Easy Integration: Can be integrated with navigation systems and other sensors for more efficient operations.
  • Cymbal Protocol: A new acoustic protocol that enhances the reliability and speed of underwater data communication.
