KNUTH UWF 1.2. Milling machines can be used for various operations such as face milling (surface cutting), slotting (groove making), drilling (drilling), to the manufacture of gears and other precision components. 
Milling techniques: 
  1. Face Milling (Surface Milling) Work Material Size: Length, 100 mm - 2000 mm, thickness ranging from 5 mm - 100 mm. Examples of Materials: Aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, brass. 
  2. Peripheral Milling (Peripheral Milling). Work Material Size: 50 mm - 1500 mm, thickness 3 mm - 80 mm. Examples of Materials: Stainless steel, titanium, copper. 
  3. Slotting (Groove Making). Work Material Size: Groove width ranging from 5 mm - 50 mm, depth up to 100 mm. Examples of Materials: Construction steel, cast iron, aluminum. 
  4. Drilling (Drilling with a Milling Machine). Hole Size: Ø3 mm – Ø50 mm, depth depends on drill bit length. Work Material Size: 50 mm – 2000 mm. Material Examples: Stainless steel, engineering plastic, titanium.
  5. Contour Milling. Work Material Size: 50 mm – 1000 mm, thickness 10 mm – 200 mm. Material Examples: Aluminum, carbon steel, brass.
  6. Gear Milling. Gear Module Size: Module 1 – Module 10 (gear diameter can reach 50 mm – 1000 mm). Material Examples: Alloy steel, cast iron, brass.
  7. Helical Milling. Thread Size: M4 – M100, with length up to 2000 mm. Material Examples: Heat resistant steel, stainless steel.
  8. Straddle Milling. Work Material Size: 100 mm – 500 mm in length, with thickness 5 mm – 100 mm. Material Examples: Carbon steel, brass, aluminum
