Micro-CT is an imaging technique that uses X-rays to visualize the internal structure of an object layer by layer. Also known as micro-tomography, it is similar to hospital CT or “CAT” imaging but operates on a smaller scale with significantly higher resolution. Samples can be imaged with pixel sizes as small as 1 µm, and objects up to 4 cm in diameter can be scanned.
The Micro-CT scanner captures a series of 2D X-ray images that are reconstructed into cross-sectional layers. These layered images can be further processed into 3D models and even physically printed as 3D objects for detailed analysis. While traditional 2D X-ray systems allow us to see through an object, the 3D Micro-CT system enables a comprehensive view of the object's internal structure, revealing its microarchitecture non-destructively.
This advanced technique provides valuable volumetric information on the microstructure of materials, making it an ideal solution for various applications, including material analysis, biological research, and quality control.
