Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWTs) represent a rapidly growing renewable energy technology, especially suitable for deep-water regions where fixed-bottom turbines are not feasible. CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis is essential for understanding fluid-structure interactions in FOWT systems, including their response to waves, currents, and wind loads. This internship will focus on numerical modeling and fluid dynamic simulation to evaluate the aerodynamic and hydrodynamic performance of FOWTs.
Internship Objectives
Application Requirements:
Internship Objectives
- To understand the fundamentals and applications of CFD in offshore energy systems analysis.
- To train students in numerical modeling and simulation using CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM).
- To conduct a case study using CFD on a floating wind turbine model under various environmental conditions.
- To evaluate the system's performance in terms of stability, efficiency, and fluid load distribution.
- To contribute preliminary insights for the development of FOWT designs suitable for Indonesian waters.
- Final-year undergraduate students majoring in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or other related disciplines.
- Basic knowledge in fluid mechanics, structural dynamics, and wind turbine systems.
- Completion of relevant coursework in numerical programming or finite element methods (FEM).
- Familiarity with CFD software such as ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, or equivalent.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a strong interest in offshore renewable energy research.
- A technical report presenting CFD analysis results, including data validation and interpretation.
- Final presentation to academic supervisors and industry/institutional partners.
- A draft scientific article or student research poster.
- Recommendations for FOWT system design or improvements based on simulation findings.
