A lathe is a machine tool used to shape a workpiece by cutting while the workpiece is rotating.
Turning Techniques:
Cylindrical Turning (Turning): Gradually reducing the diameter of the workpiece to the desired size. Example: Forming a shaft for a machine.
Taper Turning (Taper Turning): Forming a workpiece with a tapered profile. Example: Making a conical end of a drill.
Thread Cutting: Forming external or internal threads on a workpiece. Example: Making bolts and nuts.
Grooving: Forming a groove or gap in a workpiece. Example: Making a snap ring on a shaft.
Facing: Flattening the end surface of a workpiece. Example: Flattening the surface of a brake disc.
Drilling: Drilling a hole in a workpiece using a drill bit mounted on a fixed head. Example: Making a center hole in a shaft.
Knurling (Creating a Rough Line Pattern): Giving a rough texture to the surface of a workpiece so that it is not slippery. Example: The handle of hand tools such as pliers and screwdrivers.
