A maximum of five samples can be submitted for each ELSA ID.
​Residual Stress Measurement
This instrument is used to analyze residual stresses in bulk materials. Samples can be solids or sheets. The method used is the sin^2(psi) method. The sample is placed in a sample holder at several specific orientations, then subjected to X-rays. The X-ray scattering angles that hit the sample are recorded by the detector and recorded as intensity data at each scattering angle. The resulting scattering patterns are analyzed to determine the type of stress (compression or tensile) and the magnitude of the stress in the material.
