Analysis using XRF was carried out based on the identification and enumeration of characteristic x-rays that occurred from the photoelectric effect event. The photoelectric effect occurs because the electrons in the target atom (sample) are exposed to high-energy rays (gamma radiation, x-rays). If the light energy is higher than the binding energy of electrons in the orbit of K, L or M of the target atom, the electron of the target atom will come out of its orbit. Thus the target atom will experience an electron vacuum. This electron vacuum will be filled by electrons from the outer orbitals followed by the release of energy in the form of x-rays. The x-ray produced is a combination of a continuous spectrum and a specific energy spectrum (discreet) originating from the target material which is hit by electrons. X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) is similar to XRD but the difference is the fluorescence used for analysis.
