Inductive Coupled Plasma (ICP) is a mineral analysis technique especially of metals which is currently on the rise due to several advantages, including: relatively fast for accurate quantitative analysis, simultaneous analysis (can analyze many metals at once running), relatively inexpensive if the analysis > 20 elements at once but will be expensive if the element you want to analyze <10 elements. ICP MS is capable of analyzing metals at the ppb (parts per billion) level. The main principle of ICP in determining elements is the atomization of elements so that they emit light of certain wavelengths which can then be measured.
